Description
ARA-290, also known as cibinetide, is a linear 11-amino-acid peptide modelled on the three-dimensional structure of helix B of erythropoietin (EPO). It was designed to engage the so-called innate repair receptor, a heterocomplex of the EPO receptor and the β-common receptor (CD131), without stimulating red blood cell production.
Preclinical research has examined ARA-290 in rodent models of neuropathic pain and small-fibre nerve damage, in models of inflammation and tissue injury, and in islet and metabolic research. Its separation of tissue-protective signalling from erythropoietic activity makes it a useful tool for studying EPO-related pathways. Its short linear structure also makes it a practical subject for receptor-binding and peptide-stability studies.
