Description
Snap-8, also known as acetyl octapeptide-3, is a synthetic eight-residue peptide that mimics the N-terminal end of SNAP-25, one of the proteins of the SNARE complex that drives vesicle fusion and neurotransmitter release. It is an elongated analogue of the hexapeptide acetyl hexapeptide-8.
In-vitro research has investigated its competition with native SNAP-25 for a place in the SNARE complex and the resulting modulation of catecholamine and acetylcholine release in cell models. It serves as a reference peptide in in-vitro studies of SNARE-complex assembly and of peptide stability in formulation chemistry. Comparative studies with the shorter acetyl hexapeptide-8 help clarify how chain length influences SNARE-complex interference.
