Description
IGF-1 LR3 (Long R3 IGF-1) is an analogue of human insulin-like growth factor 1. It carries an arginine in place of glutamic acid at position 3 of the native sequence and a 13-amino-acid N-terminal extension, giving a polypeptide of 83 residues.
These modifications greatly reduce binding to the IGF-binding proteins (IGFBPs) that normally sequester IGF-1, while affinity for the type 1 IGF receptor (IGF-1R) is retained. As a result, IGF-1 LR3 is widely used as a defined supplement in serum-free cell-culture media and as a tool for studying IGF-1R activation and downstream PI3K/Akt and MAPK/ERK signalling in vitro. Comparisons with native IGF-1 help separate receptor-level effects from binding-protein regulation.
Keep the lyophilised protein sealed and frozen, and avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles once in solution.
