Description
PEG-MGF is mechano growth factor peptide conjugated to polyethylene glycol. PEGylation is a well-established technique for increasing the hydrodynamic size of a peptide, which in experimental systems tends to slow renal clearance and protect against proteolysis.
Researchers use PEG-MGF to compare the behaviour of a stabilised E-domain peptide with the unmodified form in cell-culture and animal studies, particularly in work on myoblast proliferation and tissue responses to mechanical stress. It also serves as a practical example in studies of how PEG conjugation alters the pharmacokinetic profile of short peptides. Comparisons with unconjugated MGF help separate the effects of the peptide sequence from those of the polymer.
