Mechano growth factor (MGF) refers to a splice variant of the IGF-1 gene, known as IGF-1Ec in humans and IGF-1Eb in rodents, that is expressed in skeletal muscle in response to mechanical loading or damage. Research peptides sold as MGF are based on the unique C-terminal E-domain of this isoform.

Preclinical research has investigated MGF expression in muscle after stretch and exercise in animal models, and the E-peptide’s activity on myoblast and satellite-cell proliferation in culture. Investigators have also studied it in models of cardiac and neural tissue stress. Its relationship to mature IGF-1 signalling remains an open research question.
