Description
Dihexa (N-hexanoic-Tyr-Ile-(6) aminohexanoic amide) is a metabolically stable, blood–brain-barrier-penetrant small peptidomimetic derived from angiotensin IV. It was developed in academic research on the brain angiotensin system.
Mechanistic studies have reported that dihexa binds hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and potentiates HGF signalling through its receptor c-Met. In hippocampal neuron cultures it has been investigated for its effects on dendritic spine formation and synaptogenesis, and rodent models of cognitive impairment have been used to study spatial learning in water-maze paradigms. It is a useful probe for HGF/c-Met biology in the nervous system. Structure–activity work on related angiotensin IV analogues provides further context for experimental design.
