Description
Thymalin was originally described as a complex of polypeptides isolated from calf thymus, rather than a single defined sequence. It is one of the earliest preparations studied within the bioregulator research programme that later produced synthetic short peptides such as thymogen and vilon.
Published research has examined thymalin’s influence on T-lymphocyte differentiation markers, on immune parameters in aged laboratory animals and on cytokine profiles in vitro. Its short peptide components, including the dipeptide Glu-Trp, were later identified and synthesised for more defined experiments. Researchers comparing extract-based and synthetic bioregulators often include thymalin as a reference.
