Description
MOTS-c is a 16-residue peptide encoded by a short open reading frame within the mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene. Described in 2015, it was one of the first mitochondrial-derived peptides shown to act beyond the mitochondrion, including translocation to the nucleus under metabolic stress.
Preclinical studies have investigated MOTS-c for its effects on the folate–methionine cycle, AMPK activation and glucose handling in skeletal muscle. Mouse models of diet-induced insulin resistance and of physical capacity have been used to examine its role in metabolic homeostasis, and circulating MOTS-c levels have been compared across age groups in animal research. It is a key tool in the emerging field of mitochondrial–nuclear communication.
Keep lyophilised MOTS-c sealed, cold and protected from light.
Intended solely for laboratory research by qualified professionals. Not for human or veterinary use, and not for diagnostic purposes.
Supplied as a 10-vial kit of lyophilised powder. Dispatched in 1–2 business days.
