Description
SLU-PP-332 is a synthetic small molecule that acts as an agonist of the estrogen-related receptors ERRα, ERRβ and ERRγ, with the greatest potency at ERRα. Despite their name, these nuclear receptors do not bind oestrogen; they regulate genes involved in mitochondrial biogenesis and oxidative metabolism.
In mouse studies, SLU-PP-332 has been investigated for its ability to induce an oxidative-metabolism gene-expression programme in skeletal muscle and its effects on mitochondrial respiration. Researchers have also examined its effects on whole-body energy expenditure and fatty-acid oxidation in diet-induced obesity models. It is a valuable probe for studying ERR-dependent transcription. Comparisons with selective ERRα and ERRγ ligands help researchers attribute effects to individual receptor subtypes.
