Description
Aviptadil is the synthetic form of vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), a 28-amino-acid neuropeptide of the secretin–glucagon family. VIP is widely distributed in the central and peripheral nervous systems and in the gut, lungs and immune tissue, where it acts on the G-protein-coupled receptors VPAC1 and VPAC2.
Receptor binding raises intracellular cyclic AMP, and much of the preclinical literature uses VIP to study this signalling in vascular, airway and intestinal epithelial preparations. Other work has examined its modulation of cytokine release in macrophages and T cells, its role in circadian timing within the suprachiasmatic nucleus, and its effects on alveolar type II cells in culture. It is also a common reference agonist when characterising selective VPAC1 and VPAC2 ligands.
Store sealed and frozen, and protect the lyophilised peptide from moisture.
