Description
GHRP-6 (His-D-Trp-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH2) was among the first synthetic growth hormone secretagogues to be characterised, emerging from structure–activity work in the early 1980s, well before the ghrelin receptor itself was cloned. It remains a reference compound for GHS-R1a research.
Preclinical literature has examined GHRP-6 for its effects on growth hormone release, on food intake and ghrelin-related signalling in rodents, and on cytoprotective pathways in cardiac and hepatic tissue models. It is also used in comparative studies alongside newer secretagogues to map receptor selectivity and downstream signalling. Its well-characterised profile makes it a practical starting point for structure–activity work on the secretagogue family.
