Description
Hexarelin, also called examorelin, is a synthetic hexapeptide structurally related to GHRP-6, with a 2-methyl-D-tryptophan residue that increases its potency at the GHS-R1a ghrelin receptor.
Beyond growth hormone release, hexarelin has attracted attention because it also binds the scavenger receptor CD36. This dual activity has made it a tool in cardiovascular research, where rodent models of ischaemia–reperfusion and cardiomyocyte cultures have been used to investigate its effects on cardiac function and cell survival pathways separately from growth hormone. Studies have also examined receptor desensitisation after repeated exposure. These properties make it a frequent subject of receptor-crosstalk research.
