Description
Sermorelin corresponds to the first 29 amino acids of human growth hormone releasing hormone, amidated at the C-terminus. This fragment was identified as the shortest sequence retaining the full biological activity of the 44-residue native hormone.
As a well-characterised GHRH-receptor agonist, sermorelin is used to study pituitary somatotroph function, cAMP-dependent signalling and the feedback relationships between GHRH, somatostatin and growth hormone. Its short half-life makes it a natural comparator for longer-acting analogues such as CJC-1295, and it has been used in animal research on the regulation of growth hormone secretion. It is also a common reference peptide in assays that compare GHRH analogues for receptor potency and enzymatic stability.
