Description
GHK-Cu is a copper complex of the naturally occurring tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine. GHK was first isolated from human plasma in the early 1970s, and its high affinity for copper(II) ions has made the complex a long-standing subject of biochemical research.
In cell culture, GHK-Cu has been investigated for its effects on collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycan synthesis by fibroblasts, and for its role in modulating matrix metalloproteinases and their inhibitors. Rodent skin models have examined its influence on extracellular-matrix remodelling, while gene-expression profiling studies have reported that GHK alters the expression of a large number of human genes in vitro. It is also used as a reference compound in copper-peptide chemistry research.
