Description
LL-37 is the only cathelicidin-family antimicrobial peptide identified in humans. It is released by proteolytic cleavage of the precursor protein hCAP18 and takes its name from its two N-terminal leucine residues and its 37-amino-acid length. In membrane-mimetic environments it adopts an amphipathic α-helical structure.
Research on LL-37 spans several fields. Microbiology groups use it to study membrane disruption in Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and to probe biofilm formation. Immunology studies have investigated its chemotactic activity through the formyl peptide receptor FPRL1, its interaction with nucleic acids and its effects on cytokine release. Epithelial models have also examined its role in keratinocyte migration and re-epithelialisation.
LL-37 is prone to aggregation; store the lyophilised peptide sealed and frozen.
Supplied for research purposes only and must not be used as a drug, food additive or cosmetic. Not for human or veterinary use.
